Mpigi District Police Commander, SP Julius Tugumenawe, has been the target of an anonymous death threat delivered in a letter.
The letter, which was left at the Mpigi-Gomba taxi stage by an unknown individual, was subsequently brought to the Mpigi Central Police Station (CPS) by a boda boda rider whose identity remains undisclosed.
The threatening letter, contained in an envelope, was handed over to Sgt Nabagala, who is also mentioned as a victim in the letter. The letter stated that SP Tugumenawe and Sgt Nabagala, who is attached to the Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU) at Mpigi CPS, are being targeted to be shot on 30th August 2024.
Further concerning details in the letter revealed that the threats are linked to the same gang responsible for a series of thefts in schools across Butambala. The police have officially registered a case of threatening violence under SD Ref 80/29/08/24 at Mpigi CPS.
Two phone numbers mentioned in the letter, belonging to individuals named Tonny and Frank, have been submitted for analysis and tracking as part of the ongoing investigation.
The police are working to identify those behind the threats and bring them to justice.
