Police in Ghana have detained a nurse following the death of a woman who underwent a cosmetic procedure at a clinic in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Accra.
The incident, confirmed by police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin, unfolded after the woman’s driver reported the case to authorities.
According to the driver, his employer, who resided in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo-Lekki, requested to be taken to a clinic early on Monday morning for a buttocks enlargement procedure.
Upon arrival at the clinic, the nurse, acting under the instruction of the clinic’s owner, administered the injection. Shortly after, the woman lost consciousness and began struggling to breathe.
Efforts were made to save her life, including transferring her to another hospital in the same area, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following the driver’s report on Tuesday, police investigators visited both the clinic and the hospital, where they documented the scene and arranged for the deceased’s body to be taken to a public morgue for an autopsy.
The nurse involved in administering the procedure has been arrested, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is currently ongoing.
