Police, in collaboration with sister security agencies, have shot dead a suspect linked to a series of violent attacks along the Northern Bypass.
The latest incident occurred on August 23, 2024, when Mr. Wagaba Sulaiman, a resident of Central Zone in Kiwatule, was brutally assaulted and rushed to China Naguru Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
In response to the growing concerns, Kira Road Police intensified patrols in the area. On August 24, 2024, around 6 a.m., officers responded to another attack involving Ms. Masibo Winnie, who was assaulted while en route to her workplace at Frain Supermarket in Ntinda. During the assault, her phone and a bag containing important documents were stolen.
The pursuit of the suspects led to a confrontation, resulting in the fatal shooting of one suspect, identified as Rwothomio Jonathan. His accomplice managed to escape with the stolen items and remains at large.
Investigations have revealed that the deceased suspect, Rwothomio Jonathan, was out on bail and facing charges of store breaking and theft under case reference Kiwatule CRB 081/2024.
His body has been taken to City Mortuary Mulago for further examination. Ms. Winnie is currently recovering from her injuries after losing consciousness during the attack.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, noted that police are actively investigating these incidents and working to ensure the safety of residents along the Northern Bypass.
