Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) has reported that a lightning strike hit its transmission towers in Kololo, resulting in a widespread outage of free-to-air channels.

The extent of the damage is still under review by UBC’s technical team.

In an official statement, UBC acknowledged the disruption, indicating that the lightning strike has also impacted the availability of UBC TV and several radio stations on certain pay TV platforms.

“We regret to inform the public that the majority of free-to-air channels are currently unavailable due to a lightning strike on our Kololo transmission towers,” UBC stated on Friday, August 16, 2024. “This incident has also affected the access to UBC TV and some radio stations on select Pay TV services.”

UBC assured the public that efforts are underway to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

“Our engineering team is actively assessing the damage and working towards a prompt resolution,” the broadcaster added. “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued patience.”
