In a successful cross-border operation, Ugandan and Kenyan police forces have recovered a stolen Uganda Police vehicle, a single-cab pickup, found parked in Kenya.
Uganda Police spokesperson Kituume Rusoke said the vehicle bearing registration number UP 00135, was reported stolen from Kampala.
He added that recovery operation was set in motion after the Ugandan Police Command Center provided the Busia Police with coordinates of the vehicle’s location in Kenya at around 6:30 PM on July 7, 2024.
“The District Police Commander (DPC) of Busia, in collaboration with the Kenya Police, located and secured the vehicle near Mumiasi Road at approximately 10:30 PM. The stolen vehicle is currently being held at the Busia Kenya Police Station and is expected to be handed over to Ugandan authorities tomorrow morning,” said Rusoke.
He reaffirmed that during the operation, a Kenyan female suspect was apprehended and is now aiding in the ongoing investigation.
Rusoke further dismissed rumors circulating on some media platforms that the Inspector General of Police’s official vehicle had been stolen, clarifying that it remains secure.
