The President of Uganda, HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today launched the NRA album and commissioned a new building, dubbed the ‘Kaguta Block,’ at Excel Vocational Training Centre in Bombo-Kalule, Luwero District.
Shortly after the commissioning, the President had a brief chat with the institute’s proprietor, Hajji Shafic Mwanje, who informed him about a fire that gutted the institute’s buildings last year.
During their conversation, the President pledged to rebuild the damaged structures. Later, the President and Mwanje proceeded to Kalule playground, where thousands of bazzukulu had gathered to hear the President’s message on wealth creation.
In his remarks at Kalule playground, Mr. Mwanje emphasized that every Ugandan now has the opportunity to become prosperous, thanks to the peace and stability created by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
He condemned the discrimination against persons with disabilities, stressing that they are equally capable of contributing to the country’s growth if given the chance.
“At Excel Vocational Training Centre, we decided to empower your bazzukulu with skills. If a person with a disability like me can work and contribute to society as I have, how can someone with full abilities fail to tap into wealth? Through these skills, our children can achieve their future goals,” Mwanje said.
Addressing the large crowd of bazzukulu, Museveni commended Hajji Mwanje for his significant contributions to the Luwero and Bukomansimbi districts.
“I visited Mwanje at the institute and saw how he is empowering our people with skills. This is a challenge to all Ugandans who prefer ‘kulambara’ (showing off). Can you imagine Shafic, who is blind, is doing all this? I visited him in Bukomansimbi and witnessed the great work he is doing there,” Museveni noted.
He mentioned that Mwanje had presented a report on the institute, which highlighted the need for further support from the government.
Meanwhile, on the topic of wealth creation, Museveni emphasized the importance of the 4-acre model, describing it as the only viable way for Ugandans to escape poverty.
Regarding wetlands, Museveni suggested that instead of farming directly in wetlands, Ugandans should consider fish farming by creating ponds on the edges of wetlands.
“Currently, I am pleased with how Ugandans in some parts of the country are embracing my message on wealth creation. For example, the people in Masaka are serious about coffee, cattle farmers are reaping significant profits from milk and its products, while the people of Kalangala are actively engaged in palm oil cultivation,” Museveni observed.
Earlier, before the President took the pulpit to address Luwero People at Kalule, ONC Head, SPA/PA Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo stirred the audience when she ‘demanded’ the President on behalf of the Luwero people to accept and come back again in 2026 or else the spirits of the people who faught in Luwero Triangle will not be happy should he think of retiring anytime soon.
This caused wild ululations from the audience as the Yellow NRM flag covered Kalule Grounds.
Hajjat further paraded before the President a group of Ghetto Youths who earlier this year burned down a police station and attempted to raid a court to burn court documents but were stopped by Luwero RDC Bwabye Richard.
The youths apologized and asked the President to listen to their pleas in the Ghetto Hoods of Luwero.
At the same event, Hajjat Namyalo urged Museveni to address the land disputes that have left many of his bazzukulu homeless or worse.
In response, Museveni acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and assured that the government is working on a solution, promising that this challenge will soon be a thing of the past.
“Some of these problems were caused by the British, who overthrew former kings of Uganda, divided the land among their favored servants, and imposed busulu (tax) on the resettlers. That’s the root of the chaos you see today,” he explained.
