The ongoing battle against narcotics in Kenya has seen a surge in the apprehension of suspects linked to alarming trafficking operations.
In a recent twist, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is seeking a court order to detain a suspect admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to retrieve a memory card he allegedly swallowed to hide evidence in a case involving fake title deeds.
State prosecutor James Gachoka has requested permission for Joel Mwangangi to be escorted to KNH for examination and extraction of the memory card from his bowel.
Mwangangi is reported to have swallowed the card to conceal critical evidence, and initial attempts to retrieve it at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport anti-narcotics unit were unsuccessful.
“We are therefore seeking an ex-parte order from the Chief Executive Officer of KNH to assist in retrieving the memory card,” Gachoka stated before Milimani Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi.
This interesting development comes amid more arrests of drug peddlers.
Locals have been urged to give up information that would lead to the arrest of more drug dealers before they continue wreaking havoc in the country.
Young men and women have also been urged to refrain from using these drugs as they might be harmful to their health and productivity.
