Four people have been arrested by police in Buhweju District over the murder of a prison warder attached to Buhweju Prison.
SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police, says that the incident occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning, 3rd–4th August 2024, in Kakiika Cell, Nsiika Town Council, Buhweju District.
Tumusiime identified the deceased person as NO.9231, PC Warder Alex Kajwarire, 45, a prison warden attached to Buhweju Government Prison, while the four suspects as Innocent Nuwabiine, 19, Lawrence Sabarangira, 38, Godwine Asiimwe, 38, and Specioza Kasande, the deceased’s concubine, whose cap was recovered from the scene. All suspects are residents of Kakiika Cell, Nsiika Town Council.
He says that the deceased was attacked and beaten to death by unknown assailants during the aforementioned night, and his body was found abandoned in the middle of the road.
It is reported that the deceased had been in a relationship with Specioza Kasande, whose husband, Deus Kasheija, had moved to Kampala.
It is further alleged that the woman’s sons had recently assaulted and injured the deceased, warning him to end the relationship, but it appears he did not take the threats seriously.
Tumusiime stated that the body was discovered lying in the road, dressed in civilian clothes with visible head injuries. The body has been taken to Nkika Health Centre IV mortuary for a post-mortem examination, and investigations are ongoing.
