Man Detained for Assaulting Kenyan Over Dancing with Girlfriend at Funeral

Police in Namisindwa District have detained a 25-year-old man, identified only as Pyusi, for allegedly assaulting a Kenyan man for dancing with his girlfriend at a funeral.

The incident occurred on Monday night around 10 PM in Manyali village, Bukokho Parish. Eyewitnesses say, Pyusi reportedly became enraged upon seeing Toney Kisebe, a 26-year-old from a neighbouring town, dancing with his girlfriend.

According to Vetti Wambewo, a resident, the confrontation escalated, and Pyusi used a pager to inflict four head wounds on Kisebe. Kisebe was promptly taken to a nearby clinic by residents for emergency treatment.

Following the attack on Kisebe, Pyusi returned home and reportedly attacked his father, David Matufu, and vandalized crops, including bananas and coffee, in a fit of rage. The outburst was reportedly triggered by Matufu’s reproach of his son’s earlier actions.

John Wafula, the LC III chairperson of Bukokho Sub County, confirmed the arrest of Pyusi, who is currently being held at the Bumbo police post.

Wafula stated that the injured individuals are receiving medical care at St. Edward Clinic in Bumbo Town Council and warned against the detrimental effects of drug use, which he suggested may have influenced Pyusi’s behaviour.

Rogers Taitika, the police spokesperson for the Elgon region, indicated that further details would be provided after receiving more information from the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (OC CID) in Namisindwa.
