In a resounding show of support, residents and local leaders in Namisindwa District have endorsed Dr. Sarah Khanakwa’s candidacy for the district’s Woman Member of Parliament in the upcoming 2026 elections.

The decision came during a well-attended zonal leaders’ meeting held at Tsekululu Sub County headquarters, a key event that gathered leaders from all 13 sub-counties in the greater Buwabwala zone.

The meeting, which took place last Thursday, saw approximately 800 attendees, including community leaders and residents, who expressed overwhelming support for Dr. Khanakwa’s campaign.

The resolution to back her candidacy was presented by Buwabwala Sub County Chairman, Makumba Khameme Vincent, who highlighted the strong grassroots support for Dr. Khanakwa, affectionately known locally as “Sibya Sipoto.”

In his address, Chairman Khameme emphasized the collective endorsement: “We particularly and without hesitation endorse Dr. Khanakwa Sarah aka Sibya Sipoto as our own candidate for the district woman member of parliament in 2026.” This declaration was met with enthusiastic applause from the gathered crowd, indicating a united front in support of Dr. Khanakwa’s bid for the parliamentary seat.

Dr. Khanakwa’s candidacy has gained significant traction due to her extensive community service and dedication to improving healthcare and education in Namisindwa.

Her initiatives include organizing free integrated medical camps, which offer essential health services like eye care, general medicine, TB screening, and more, at no cost to the residents. These camps, held in various locations within the district, have been instrumental in providing much-needed healthcare services to underserved communities.

In addition to her medical camps, Dr. Khanakwa has also distributed “mama kits” to pregnant mothers, provided sanitary pads to girls, and supplied scholastic materials to needy schoolchildren. These actions have not only alleviated some of the pressing needs in the district but have also demonstrated her commitment to the well-being of her constituents. These efforts have been recognized by many in the community as clear indicators of her capability and dedication to public service.

During the meeting, Dr. Khanakwa reassured the residents of her commitment to their needs, promising to work tirelessly to bring more development to Namisindwa if elected. “I pledge never to disappoint the people of Namisindwa,” she stated, emphasizing her plans to use the parliamentary platform to advocate for greater resources and development projects for the district.

Dr. Khanakwa’s extensive background and expertise further bolster her candidacy. She is a development expert and resource mobilization specialist, currently heading the resource mobilization efforts for Uganda’s National HIV Response under the Uganda AIDS Commission. Her academic credentials include a PhD in Health Economics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, alongside degrees in Public Health, Business Administration, and Social Sciences from reputable institutions. Her professional and academic experience positions her as a well-qualified candidate capable of addressing the complex challenges facing Namisindwa.

As the 2026 elections approach, Dr. Khanakwa’s growing support base and her proven track record of service suggest she is a strong contender for the Woman MP seat in Namisindwa District.

Her campaign’s focus on healthcare, education, and community development resonates deeply with the residents, many of whom have pledged their unwavering support.

With the backing of local leaders and a significant portion of the electorate, Dr. Khanakwa is poised to bring her vision of a prosperous and healthy Namisindwa to fruition. The community’s endorsement reflects a hopeful outlook for her potential leadership, which aims to drive positive change and improve the quality of life for all residents in the district.
