Dokolo, UG – Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a pedestrian identified as 16-year-old Oyuku Fidelis, a resident of Odeye Central Cell, Amuda Eastern Ward, Agwata Town Council, Dokolo District.
Fidelis was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on July 19, 2024, around 8:00 PM at the Agwata Trading Centre along the Lira-Soroti Road.
According to North Kyoga Region Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the vehicle involved was a silver Noah with registration number UBL 579U. The unidentified driver was travelling from Lira towards Soroti.
“Oyuku died instantly,” stated SP Okema. “The front license plate of the vehicle fell off and remained at the scene. The vehicle then continued towards Soroti,” he added.
Upon receiving information about the accident, the Dokolo District Traffic Officer immediately rushed to the scene. The deceased’s body was retrieved and transported to Dokolo HC IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Preliminary investigations indicate that speeding may have been a contributing factor in the accident.
Police Appeal for the Driver to Come Forward
SP Okema urged the driver involved in the incident to report themselves to the nearest police station.
“It is easier for the police to identify the vehicle’s owner through Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) records,” he added.
