Mbale, UG: The Inzu Ya Masaba cultural institution, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, has announced a series of events leading up to the highly anticipated Imbalu launch, set for August 3rd.
The announcement was made during a media briefing held on July 16th, where various cultural and government representatives outlined the planned activities.
The Prime Minister of Inzu Ya Masaba, Rt. Hon. Charles Walimbwa Peke, officially opened the media briefing, emphasizing the cultural significance of the Imbalu ceremony and the importance of preserving this traditional practice.
In attendance were key figures from the cultural institution, including the Minister for Culture, Hon. Moses Kutoi, and the Imbalu Chairman, Mr. Wilson Watira. Other notable attendees included security personnel, prison officials, representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, and members of the Nabachelema Foundation, an association similar to Buganda’s Nabagereka Foundation.
The media briefing highlighted several events leading up to the Imbalu launch, such as the pre-Imbalu launch competition and the Umukuka dinner.
In his address, Mr. Masiga the spokesperson for the Bamasaba Cultural Institution reiterated the commitment of the Inzu Ya Masaaba to uphold and promote the Imbalu tradition.
He also acknowledged the support from the Ministry of Tourism and other stakeholders in ensuring the success of the upcoming events.
Additionally, the Nabachelema Foundation has pledged to train over 500 traditional surgeons, a crucial aspect of the Imbalu ceremony.
The Imbalu launch on August 3rd is expected to draw significant attention and participation, underscoring the rich cultural heritage of the Bamasaaba people.
The series of activities leading up to the launch aim to engage the community and celebrate the enduring traditions that define the region.
