Police Investigate Kanungu Man’s Death Following Alleged Assault by Son

Police in Kanungu District are investigating the death of 73-year-old Emmanuel Bareba, who was allegedly assaulted by his 28-year-old son, Amosi Nuwagaba.

The incident occurred on July 4 at 2:00 PM at their family home in Kyeshero Central Cell, Kyeshero Sub County.

According to police reports, the dispute began when Bareba accused his son of stealing and selling his coffee, which led to Nuwagaba brutally attacking his father, leaving him with severe injuries.

Bareba was admitted to Bwindi Community Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on July 8 at 2:00 PM.

Amosi Nuwagaba is currently at large, and the police are actively searching for him. ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi police spokesperson, stated, “Our team is working tirelessly to apprehend him and bring him to justice. We condemn this heinous act and urge anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.”

The community is shocked by the incident, and there are concerns about Nuwagaba’s alleged history of drug abuse and previous assaults on his father.

The police are appealing to the public for any information that could aid in the suspect’s arrest and prosecution.
