Police in Kabalagala have arrested two Eritrean nationals on allegations of killing their colleague during a bar brawl.

The deceased, Hannibal Tewelde, 30, was an Eritrean national and refugee resident of Lukuli zone in Makindye division. He was killed in Kabalagala on Monday evening.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango identified the suspects as Siem Fustem and Henok Foto, also refugees from the same area. They are currently detained at Katwe Police Division on charges of murder.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the suspects were at My Place Bar within A.D Plaza apartment along Kibuli Road, where they were drinking. A fight broke out among the trio, and Tewelde was hit on the head with beer bottles, causing him to collapse.

“The deceased was rushed to Nsambya Hospital for medical attention by the suspects. Upon their arrival, he was pronounced dead. The case was reported at Kabalagala police station,” Onyango said.

Police detectives from the homicide unit in Kabalagala visited the scene and recorded statements from relevant witnesses. The body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The 2023 police annual crime report indicated that 4,366 cases of murder were recorded, an average of 12 victims per day, with assault, mob action, and strangulation contributing to the highest number of deaths.
