An unidentified woman experienced labor pains while in a taxi and gave birth at Nile Stage before being transported to Jinja Hospital.
The incident unfolded amidst a tragic accident in Njeru, where a mixture of grief and joy permeated the scene.
Around 2 PM, a devastating accident occurred at Nile Stage. A speeding box body truck lost control and crashed into a Toyota Wish and a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of the rider and two passengers on the motorcycle.
Eyewitnesses attributed the accident to the high speed of the box body truck driver, who was traveling from Kayunga towards Jinja City.
Twaha Kamya, a witness, reported, “The driver failed to brake at Nile Stage, hitting two motorcycles and a vehicle coming from the Kayunga side.”
While the occupants of the Toyota Wish escaped unharmed, the boda boda rider and his passengers were killed instantly. Their bodies were taken to Jinja Hospital morgue.

Shortly after the fatal accident, the scene transformed into an impromptu “labor ward.” A woman, who remains unidentified, delivered a healthy baby boy at the stage.
The delivery was facilitated by a group of women who formed a protective circle around the mother-to-be, assisting her through the emergency amidst a downpour.
The woman, who was traveling alone without a mother kit, had been referred from St. Francis Hospital in Mbiko to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for medical care.
She went into labor while in the taxi and delivered at Nile Stage before being conveyed to Jinja Hospital.
Both mother and baby were reported to be in good condition by the time they were taken to the hospital.
