Man Arrested for Throwing Stones At Police CCTV Cameras

Uganda Police have arrested one suspect for tampering with the installation of police CCTV cameras in Kabojja.

The suspect, identified as Kirumira Abdu, is accused of repeatedly attempting to damage CCTV cameras in the Kabojja area of Kyengera Town Council. Reports indicate that Abdu was seen on multiple occasions trying to knock down the cameras, throwing stones at them, and even attempting to dig out the cables.

“Kirimura Abdu was observed on several occasions approaching the CCTV camera installations and engaging in activities such as attempting to knock down the cameras, throwing stones, and trying to dig out the cables,” said Luke Owoyesigire, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson.

Abdu’s actions have raised concerns about his mental state, prompting authorities to prioritize a mental health evaluation before proceeding with prosecution. “By the look of things, it warrants us to have him examined first to ascertain his mental status. So that is what we are going to do before we go ahead with processing him and prosecuting him in court,” Owoyesigire explained.

This incident is part of a broader issue, as tampering with CCTV cameras has become a common practice, particularly among individuals under the influence of alcohol. “Drunkards are worried to knock down our CCTV camera installations, and many have been arrested, either still on the run, but we know we shall have all these tactics arrested,” Owoyesigire noted.

The police continue to urge the public to respect public property and report any suspicious activities around CCTV installations to help maintain safety and security in the community.

By press time, the suspect was still detained at Nateete Police Station.
