Kampala, Uganda – Herbert Anderson Burora, the suspended Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Rubaga, spent the night at Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) after being transferred from Kira Police Station.

Burora was apprehended on Monday night from his home by parliament police on charges related to computer misuse.

Before his arrest, Burora posted on social media, alleging that unknown men had besieged his home and ordered him to follow them.

This event culminated in his detention under the Computer Misuse Act for hate speech and disseminating malicious information.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Public Relations Officer Patrick Onyango confirmed Burora’s arrest, emphasizing the need for the public to refrain from using social media to spread misinformation.

Onyango stated, “Burora was arrested on charges of hate speech and malicious information under the Computer Misuse Act. We appeal to the public not to use social media to misinform others.”

David Byamukama, a member of Burora’s legal team, noted that they had not yet fully accessed their client. “We are waiting for him to be produced before the courts of law within the mandated 48 hours.

The police searched Burora’s home in Ntinda but found nothing incriminating before taking him to record a statement and detaining him,” Byamukama added.

Burora’s arrest comes after his suspension on March 14 by Hajji Yunusu Kakande, the Secretary to the Office of the President.

The suspension was due to Burora’s alleged violation of Uganda Public Service Standing Orders by publicly criticizing the Speaker of Parliament.
