Police in Hoima have arrested Annet Katusiime, a 28-year-old woman from Kitongole village in Kyabigambire sub-county, for allegedly strangling her 2-year-old child.
The incident came to light on Thursday when residents noticed the child was missing and confronted Katusiime about the child’s whereabouts.
Under the threat of being lynched by the angry residents, Katusiime confessed to strangling the child and secretly burying him in a nearby sugarcane plantation.
She then led the residents to the burial site. The residents promptly alerted the police, who exhumed the child’s body and transported it to Hoima City mortuary.
Alex Mwesigwa, the LCIII Chairperson for Kyabigambire sub-county, stated that Katusiime had long accused her husband, Peter Kasaija, of excessive alcohol consumption and failing to provide for the family.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed that Katusiime is currently in custody at the Hoima Central police station.
