The territorial traffic police in Kassanda are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on June 19, 2024, at around 1:30 PM in Namilyango village, along the Mityana-Bukuya Road.
The accident involved an Isuzu forward truck, registration number UBA 605A, silver in colour, travelling from Mityana Town to Bukuya with market vendors on board.
According to Police, the driver, who has not yet been identified, lost control of the vehicle on a slope, causing it to overturn. Tragically, 11 people died on the spot. Several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Mityana Hospital and Bukuya Health Centre IV for treatment.
Kawala Rachael, the Wamala Police Spokesperson, stated that the injured were promptly rushed to Mityana Hospital and Bukuya Health Centre IV for emergency treatment. The exact number of those injured and their current conditions are yet to be disclosed.
“Police traffic officers quickly responded to the scene, conducting a thorough examination. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Mityana Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations. Meanwhile, the Isuzu truck has been towed to Kassanda Police Station for further inspection as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident,” Kawala said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims,” Kawala added in a statement. “Inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident. More details will be availed as the investigation progresses.”
