Entebbe, Uganda — The much-anticipated meeting between President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and city traders, originally scheduled for June 20, 2024, has been postponed.
This development was announced by the leaders of the traders following a meeting with the President at State House, Entebbe.
In a joint statement, Dr. Thadeus Musoke, Chairperson of the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), and Mr. John Kabanda, Chairman of the Federation of Uganda’s Traders Associations (FUTA), confirmed that the meeting will now take place on July 31, 2024.
The Standard have learnt that the decision to reschedule the meeting was made to allow both parties to conduct thorough research on the contentious issues surrounding the Uganda Revenue Authority’s (URA) Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS).
The traders voiced their concerns about the EFRIS system, which has been a point of contention in their business operations.
President Museveni initially addressed these issues during a general meeting with the traders at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on May 7, 2024. The postponement aims to facilitate a more informed and conclusive discussion in July.
Both sides are committed to using the extended period to delve deeper into the subject matter and devise a final resolution to the long-standing dispute.
The President and the traders are hopeful that this approach will yield a mutually beneficial outcome, addressing the traders’ challenges and enhancing the business environment in Uganda.
