Police Arrest Three Suspected Cult Leaders, Rescue 15 Children From Dungeons

MPIGI — Police in Mpigi district have arrested three individuals suspected of operating a religious cult and rescued 15 children from a mansion in Nswanjere-Kasooto village.

The raid took place on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, according to Musa Kakembo, the LCIII Chairperson of Muduuma Sub County.

Kakembo reported that the children, aged between 6 and 14, were found locked inside a large mansion, singing Christian worship songs. Upon questioning, both the children and adults claimed that they were born by Jesus and had been brought to the location by Him.

The identities of the suspects and their connection to the cult are still under investigation. Kakembo expressed concern about the possibility of the cult being financed by a wealthy individual or organization. “Whoever is funding them must be very rich because they stay in a big mansion,” he remarked.

The rescued children are currently being cared for at Bujuuko police station as the police continue their investigation into the suspected cult’s activities and financial backers. Authorities are working to determine the children’s backgrounds and ensure their safety and well-being.

This incident has raised alarm in the local community, prompting calls for heightened vigilance and scrutiny of similar activities in the area.
