Uganda Police Force (UPF), in collaboration with sister security agencies, conducted a successful operation at Elite Arcade on Nasser Road yesterday afternoon, June 11, 2024, leading to the arrest of eight suspects involved in the distribution, production, and sale of counterfeit money.

The operation, orchestrated by the Directorate of Crime Intelligence, resulted in the apprehension of the principal dealer, Mukasa Ronald, along with his accomplices: Mugumya Geey, Brian Abaho, Joel Kagame, Ogadi Ronald, Namuwaya Shadia, Segwayi Rodgers, and Abu Mayanja. The raid took place at shop A-08, where the suspects were allegedly operating.

During the operation, authorities recovered counterfeit money in various currencies, including Ugandan shillings, South Sudanese Pounds, US Dollars, Euros, Rwandan Francs, United Kingdom Pounds, and Kuwaiti Dinars. In addition to the fake currency, materials used in the production of counterfeit money were seized.

These materials included films, papers with images, chemicals, CPUs, monitors, digital printers, and suspected forged land titles and academic documents.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects would be charged with dealing in counterfeits. They will be arraigned in court once the investigations are concluded.

“The Police remain committed to combating counterfeit operations and ensuring the integrity of our financial system,” Owoyesigyire emphasized.

The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Uganda’s security agencies to crack down on counterfeit activities and protect the country’s economy from the adverse effects of fake currency.
