Six people have died and three others sustained injuries in a road crash that occurred this morning at Kakiika along the Ntungamo-Rukungiri Road in Ntungamo District.

The incident took place in the wee hours of June 12, 2024, involving a Toyota Hiace with registration number UBN 337H and an Isuzu bus belonging to Kasaaba Bus Company, with registration number UAP 385U.

According to an initial report from the traffic police, the Toyota Hiace was travelling from Rukungiri to Ntungamo when it experienced a tyre puncture.

The driver parked the vehicle on the right-hand side of the road, leaving part of it on the tarmac while attempting to fix the tyre. The vehicle’s full lights were on during this process.

Tragically, the Isuzu bus, which was travelling from Kampala to Rukungiri, veered off the road and collided head-on with the parked Toyota Hiace. The collision resulted in the immediate death of six people, including the driver, the turnman, and a police officer attached to Nsangi Police Station. Three other individuals sustained injuries.

The traffic police quickly responded to the scene and transported the injured victims to Devine Health and Ntungamo Specialist Medical Centres for urgent medical attention.

The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to Rwashameire Health Centre IV for post-mortem examinations.

The two involved vehicles have been towed to Ntungamo Central Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.

SP Kananura Michael, the CLO for Traffic & Road Safety, emphasized that thorough inquiries have commenced to determine the exact circumstances leading to this tragic accident.
