Two armed robbers were arrested in Bwebajja, and a pistol was recovered following a swift response by the police at Katwe and Bwebajja.

The incident occurred after Mbadiremu Maria, a 28-year-old mobile money dealer and shop owner, reported a disturbance call from Bwebajja’s cell. Maria was attacked and robbed by a thug armed with a pistol.

According to Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, the victim was approached by Bugaya Edrine, a 20-year-old friend, who wanted to withdraw mobile money. During the transaction, around 11 pm, a robber armed with a pistol attacked and robbed Maria of approximately UGX 3 million.

“She, however, managed to positively identify the armed robber, as a friend to the customer, Bugaya Edrine and suspected foul play. She raised an alarm and also the police counter number, at Bwebajja CPS. The response team established how Bugaya Edrine, had conspired with Bahati Kisekka, the armed suspect, who was also arrested that night,” Enanga said.

Police said exhibits of evidential value, which include; an unmarked pistol without a magazine, Ugx 1.5m, a black jumper, hood, face masks, and mobile phones with supporting messages, were all recovered, from their known premises, at Nadia Excel Recruitment Ltd, that is rented by Aisha Nanyonga.

“The pistol was smuggled from South Sudan, by Kiseka Bahati, aged 27, to facilitate their criminal enterprise. We urge the public to make use of the Counter numbers at the nearest police station or post. The system works 24/7.

He said that the arrest and recovery of exhibits show the Police’s level of commitment and dedication in the fight against violent armed criminals adding, “The suspects were charged to court for having an illegal firearm, robbery and related conspiracies.”
