Police in Masindi are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a Kampala-based businessman at Masindi Port Guest House.
Pastori Baryarugabu, 55, was a resident of Kawempe in Kampala. His lifeless body was found lying in the guesthouse bathroom on Sunday morning.
Baryarugabu drove to Masindi on Saturday evening to supply his clients with mineral water. He reportedly booked into Masindi Port Guest House at around 7 pm. The guesthouse management became suspicious when he failed to wake up on Sunday morning.
Everlyne Asaba, the manager of the guest house, told URN in an interview that they were compelled to check on Byarugaba, only to find him lying dead in the bathroom. Asaba immediately alerted the police, who commenced investigations into the matter.
Julius Hakiza, Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that police rushed to the crime scene and transported the body to Masindi General Hospital, where it is currently awaiting a postmortem.
Hakiza also mentioned that the hotel manager has already recorded a statement with the police, and arrangements are ongoing to contact the deceased’s family.
In April 2022, an Indian businessman Mike Sultan, 40, was found dead in Kasonga Guest House guest house in neighbouring Kikuube district.
