The Office of the President of the Republic of Uganda has officially addressed concerns over General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s position regarding the 2026 presidential elections.

There have been varied concerns among Ugandans, especially members of the ruling National Resistance Movement, seeking clarity on whether President Museveni will seek re-election in the forthcoming general elections in 2026.

While officiating at the passing out of the Assistant Resident and City Commissioners at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi on May 7, the Minister for the Presidency revealed that the Head of State will be seeking to retain his position at the helm of the country when the country’s Electoral Commission finally opens up space for contestants later next year.

Babalanda congratulated the new appointees upon catching the eye of the President and charged them to mobilize the masses by rallying them to embrace the various socioeconomic transformation programs and spearheading the fight against the vice of corruption.

The passing out of the new Assistant RDCs was attended by some of the top government bigwigs, including Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

President Museveni was represented by the Vice President, Rtd Maj. Jessica Alupo emphasized her master’s confidence in the new officials’ contribution to the promotion of the core principles of NRM and enhancing the push for socioeconomic transformation.

The officials were also tasked to maintain the highest moral standards, aware that they represent the fountain of honour whose status they should reflect in executing their duties.

The officials, a total of 357, have been in Kyankwanzi for two weeks since May 26, where they were admitted to induct them as they prepare to embark on responsibilities contained in their terms of appointment.
