Man United winger Mason Greenwood’s loan spell at La Liga club Getafe has come to an end following their 2-1 defeat to Mallorca
Mason Greenwood has confirmed his loan spell at Getafe has finished and the forward is returning to Manchester United.
Greenwood has been on loan in Spain since deadline day in August. He was suspended by United in January 2022 amid allegations of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.
A lengthy investigation into the case then followed, with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropping all charges against Greenwood in February 2023. A United statement at the time read: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped. The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”
During his time at the La Liga club, Greenwood has made 36 appearances scoring ten goals in the process. His last appearance this season came during the 2-1 defeat to Mallorca.
After the match, Greenwood bid farewell to his temporary club on Instagram. He wrote: “Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season.
“Thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my teammates and club.
“A bittersweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best.” Greenwood is contracted to United until the summer of 2025 but his future at Old Trafford remains unclear.
MEN Sport understands the working assumption is that the forward will be sold but whether that will be to Getafe or another club is unknown.
