Buganda’s King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, 69, has spent 55 days at a private medical facility in Namibia, Southern Africa.

Mutebi, who has been in and out of the hospital in Germany, travelled to Namibia in April and has since then been undergoing treatment for his ailments.

This was disclosed by Namibia’s ambassador to Germany, Martin Andjaba in response to a query from a Ugandan following reports that the Kabaka was being held in Namibia.

“He (Kabaka) arrived in the country in April 2024 for treatment and is currently at Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre in the Outjo area in the Kunene Region,” said Andjaba in response to the Ugandan.

Mutebi’s illness has been fodder for bloggers with some accusing Prime Minister Peter Mayiga of “hiding the King from his people.”

Mayiga has since refused to disclose the Kabaka’s whereabouts and illness on privacy grounds.

“I’m informing Buganda once again that the Kabaka is still abroad where he went for an appointment with his medical handlers,” said Mayiga in May 2024.

“He will return upon the doctors’ confirmation that he is ready to be discharged.”

However, the Kabaka’s subjects insist they deserve regular updates about the Kabaka’s health conditions.

Located in a 5000 hectare area, Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre uses the Okonguarri method of treatment that has particularly successful in treating depressive disorders, anxiety-related disorders, personality dysfunctions (psychosis), post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), stress management, somatoform disorders, substance-related disorders, and childhood-related disorders.

The facility provides a range of therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Behavioral Emotive Therapy (REBT) and Psychotherapy.

The Buganda King, was last seen in March, just days before his birthday run which happened on April 7, 2024 at Mengo.
