Police in Bukwo have taken custody of a car, registration number UBP 615C, believed to be involved in a criminal offence.

The vehicle, a white Harrier registered in the name of Nambuya Juliet and purchased from Zaari Motors Kampala, was allegedly used in a robbery that occurred on Friday night, May 10th.

According to reports, the robbers believed to number around four individuals, were intercepted by police and members of the local boda boda community. However, the suspects managed to flee into the hills of Bukwo, abandoning the car in the process.

Witnesses stated that the robbers left behind the vehicle, as well as two mobile phones, in their haste to escape the pursuing authorities.

Bernard Wabwire, an insurance expert, confirmed the registration details of the seized vehicle, emphasizing the need for thorough investigation and prosecution.

The officer in charge at Bukwo Town Police Station, Mr. Mulumba, affirmed that there is sufficient evidence to pursue legal action against the perpetrators. He indicated that the robbers targeted a businesswoman at the Bukwo Town Council Road Market.

The law, particularly sections 253 and 254 of the Penal Code, imposes severe penalties for acts of theft and robbery, with the maximum punishment awaiting the apprehended suspects.

Mwanga Titus, a parish chief and student at Makerere University Bukwo Study Centre, highlighted the importance of a conducive business environment fostered by the government.

David Kaye, a former Grade 1 Magistrate from Mbarara and resident of Bukwo, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the harsh consequences of criminal behaviour.
