Bukwo residents in Uganda have expressed their unwavering support for President Museveni, pledging to give him 99% of their votes if he decides to run again in the upcoming General elections of 2026.

The residents have made it clear that the remaining 1% will be shared among the other contestants for the presidency. Some residents even went as far as stating that the other candidates should not bother campaigning in Bukwo, as their votes are solely reserved for Museveni.

The residents’ loyalty towards the President stems from his commitment to improving the infrastructure in the region. One resident, Mr Mwanga, a boda boda rider, passionately exclaimed, “How can we not support a man who promises to tarmac the road from Kapchorwa to Suam and fulfils his promises? Even his home road to Rwakitura is not tarmacked, but he prioritized us first.”

The road in question, spanning from Mbale to Kapchorwa and up to Suam, covers approximately 140 kilometres and is fully tarmacked. Upon reaching the Suam border, the road seamlessly connects to Kitale, a major town in the Kenyan highlands, which is approximately 50 kilometres away.

This international road has not only facilitated trade between Uganda and Kenya but has also brought significant economic growth to Suam town council, thanks to the recent facelift provided by the Ugandan government.

The residents of Bukwo are immensely grateful to President Museveni for granting them a tarmac road, which cost trillions of shillings to construct. This road spans approximately 70 kilometres from Kapchorwa town to Bukwo, greatly improving connectivity and promoting business opportunities in the region.

The construction of the Bukwo-Suam road has also encouraged highlanders to engage in trade with other towns such as Mbale and Kampala, as they no longer need to travel to Kitale, which was previously the only tarmacked route on the Ugandan side. This development has further strengthened the economic ties between Uganda and Kenya.

Overall, the residents of Bukwo are pleased with President Museveni’s leadership and his dedication to fulfilling his promises. The tarmac road has not only enhanced transportation but has also opened doors for increased trade and prosperity between Uganda and its neighbouring countries.
