The territorial police of Mityana have apprehended seven suspects in connection to an appalling case of aggravated torture that transpired in Namuzikiza village, Watuba parish, Kikandwa sub-county, Mityana district.
The victim, identified as Muhirwe Kolodina, a 29-year-old bar attendant and resident of the same area, fell prey to a heinous act of violence on April 28th, 2024, at approximately 0930hrs.
According to the statement issued by SP Racheal Kawala, the PRO Wamala Region, it is alleged that the victim was formerly married to James Lukiiko for 6 years but the couple was unable to have any children together. The couple separated in January 2024 due to misunderstandings, leading the victim to leave behind her gardens and banana plantation where she would usually gather food.
Upon her arrival at Lukiiko’s property, events took a sinister turn. Lukiiko allegedly accused Kolodina of stealing a pig and, with the assistance of his son Lwabye Brian and area defense officer Kalanzi James, subjected her to a brutal assault.
Tied up and accused falsely, Kolodina suffered torture at the hands of a mob gathered in the home of the area Chairperson, Kiwanuka Steven. The harrowing ordeal included the victim being burnt with a lit jerrican, all in a frenzied attempt to extract information about the alleged theft.
Despite her agony, Kolodina was eventually rescued by a passing boda boda cyclist and taken to the police station, where she reported the horrific incident under case reference number CRB 155/2024.
Disturbingly, video footage of the torture has since circulated widely on social media platforms, sparking outrage and calls for justice.
Following Kolodina’s report, a statement was recorded from her, and she received medical attention at Namayumba Health Center IV.
SP Kawala further added that suspects including Kiwanuka George, Lukiiko James, Kezimbira George, Lwabye Brian, Namusoke Betty, among others, are currently in police custody at Mityana Police Station as investigations into the barbaric act progress.
She reaffirmed the police’s unwavering commitment to pursuing every incident of torture and ensuring that the perpetrators face the full force of the law.
