Uganda Police with sister security agencies in Bushenyi are on the hunt for a boda boda rider who allegedly killed his colleague following a dispute over the condition of his motorcycle.

The incident unfolded at Omukasusano trading centre in Kitagata Parish, Kyeizooba Sub-county, Bushenyi District.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, the victim, 25-year-old Nathan Byakureka, reportedly made remarks about the old motorcycle belonging to his colleague, Felix Twebaze, while they were both at the trading centre. This seemingly innocuous comment triggered a violent reaction from Twebaze.

Enanga explained, “When he met Twebaze in the trading centre, he asked him why he rides an old motorcycle which angered Twebaze and slapped Byakureka twice on the head, before hitting him with a brick as he attempted to run away.”

Tragically, Byakureka succumbed to his injuries, while Twebaze fled the scene and is currently evading capture.

Enanga emphasized the seriousness of the incident, stating, “Twebaze Felix is on the run but we shall track him down and have him arrested. These are casual incidents that are usually avoidable and don’t require going to the extent of murdering a person.”

The authorities are urging the public to refrain from resorting to violence to settle disputes, emphasizing the importance of peaceful resolution and conflict management.

Meanwhile, efforts to apprehend the suspect are ongoing as the community mourns the loss of Byakureka.
