Parliament Conducts Vetting Process for New Ministers

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has presided over the vetting of new ministers at Parliament Buildings in Kampala this Monday morning.

President Museveni last week appointed Balaam Barugahara as State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Lilian Aber as Minister for State for Relief and Disaster Preparedness, and Dr Kenneth Omona as the State Minister for Northern Uganda Affairs.

Others include Wilson Mbadi as Minister of State for Trade, Sironko Woman MP Florence Wamala Wambozi as State Minister for Karamoja Affairs and Phiona Nyamutoro as Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development.

The constitution requires that Parliament must approve certain personnel appointments made by the President.

The purpose of the provision is to ensure that a person seeking to serve in a certain position has the necessary education, work experience, competence, temperament, vision and integrity.
