In a collaborative effort, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Forces of Congo (FARDC) successfully eliminated one terrorist belonging to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in Maserekwede, Ituri Province.
The ongoing joint operation aims to eradicate the ADF threat, with terrorists splintering into small groups of 5-7 individuals across four sectors targeted by the operation.
Major General Dick Olum, Commander of the Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa, oversees operations from Sector Four at Luna, serving as the tactical headquarters for coordinating the hunt for remaining terrorists.
Furthermore, the joint forces recently seized additional weapons from ADF militants during an encounter in Kasongo, Ituri Province. The recovered arsenal includes one PK machine gun, one Sub Machine Gun (SMG), and one hundred rounds of ammunition.
The loss of weapons deals a significant blow to the ISIS-affiliated ADF group, as they rely heavily on such resources for their survival.
The successful operations underscore the commitment of UPDF and FARDC in combating terrorism and restoring peace in the region.
