The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has mobilized regional, district, and city coordinators nationwide to spearhead efforts and expand the membership base of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of the upcoming mass registration and update exercise, commencing this week.
Scheduled to run for five days from Wednesday, March 13th to Sunday, March 17th, 2024, the exercise seeks to verify existing members, register new ones into the Yellow Book, and eliminate non-existent members, possibly deceased or defected to opposition parties. It serves as a pivotal activity in the party’s roadmap for internal elections and the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
Addressing coordinators at a capacity-building meeting on Monday, March 11th, at ONC offices in Kyambogo, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, the Senior Political Advisor and head of the ONC, tipped coordinators to avoid engaging with corrupt government officials and praised their efforts in mobilizing support for the party, which has significantly increased its popularity and backing from local to national levels.
Ahead of the exercise, Hajjat Namyalo urged coordinators to surpass current membership levels, validating their invested efforts.

Each district and city coordinator has been tasked to secure at least 10 new members from every village, aiming for a target of 720,000 new NRM supporters nationwide by the exercise’s conclusion on Sunday, March 17th, 2024.

The registration process entails members visiting their respective NRM village offices or designated locations, presenting their details to party registrars for verification and updating in the NRM Yellow Book. This certification renders members eligible for the party’s electoral activities and national elections.
Following the registration, the new register will be displayed in all 72,000 villages nationwide, with Barazas convened on March 17th to verify registered members. After this, expressions of interest and nominations for party structures at village and cell levels will be solicited between March 19th and 24th, followed by campaign activities from March 25th to 26th.

Polling and announcement of results for village-level party structures are scheduled for March 27th. The compilation of registers and polling at parish, sub-county, and town council levels will occur on April 5th, 12th, and 16th, respectively.
The exercise will culminate with the compilation of registers at municipal, city division, district, and city levels between April 19th and 30th, with final results forwarded to the party secretariat.
