In a speech delivered on Saturday to graduating forces of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) in Kassala, Al-Atta addressed ceasefire appeals, asserting that the military and the people of Sudan would not agree to a truce dictated by external parties.

Al-Atta emphasized that Sudan’s military chief, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, had made it clear to all parties that a ceasefire with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) was unattainable due to their perceived lack of moral conduct and disregard for the law.

He outlined specific conditions for a ceasefire, including the RSF’s withdrawal from occupied cities in Darfur and Kordofan, their departure from Khartoum, and the surrender of military equipment.

Al-Atta stressed that negotiations would commence only after these terms were met. This would occur once their fighters were assembled in six cantonment sites, three in Khartoum and three in Darfur, to which RSF troops would relocate and surrender their weapons.

Opposing any future political role for the “Daglo family” and other senior RSF figures, Al-Atta argued that political leadership should be determined by the Sudanese people post-conflict, not through negotiation. He asserted that the RSF had no place in the military institution due to their conflicting values.

Expressing gratitude to international organizations and states regardless of their stance on the conflict, Al-Atta reiterated the commitment of the Sudanese military and security forces to following the will of the people, which he defined as “defeating the RSF and building a modern Sudan.”

He called for an emergency government to support the war effort and rebuild areas liberated from RSF control. JEM leader and Finance Minister Gibril Ibrahim stood beside Al-Atta during his speech, indicating support for his statements.

Regarding accusations against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Al-Atta reiterated claims of direct support to the RSF, alleging UAE’s involvement in killings, looting, and violence against civilians. He used inflammatory language to describe the UAE leadership and accused them of instigating the conflict to pursue their goals in Sudan.

Al-Atta’s accusations against the UAE sparked a diplomatic crisis between Sudan, the UAE, and Chad, as he alleged that the UAE provided weapons to the RSF through Chad.
