KK Security Uganda Limited, a subsidiary of GardaWorld Company over the weekend awarded the seven best pupils from Hoima and Buliisa districts with fully funded O’Level scholarships to enable them attain full secondary education over the next four years.

The students who emerged as the best candidates in the districts for the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) were selected from underprivileged families after over 100 applicants filled out forms to benefit from the prestigious “GardaWorld Scholarship Scheme”, an initiative aimed at enhancing access to education through a range of platforms across its operating markets.

Through this scholarship, the four girls and three boys who benefited from the fully funded four-year scholarship inclusive of all scholastic materials and tuition will pursue their secondary studies at St. Andrea Kaahwa’s College in Hoima, Uganda.

During the prestigious awards ceremony held last Friday, February 16, 2024, at Golden Castle Hotel in Hoima City, the company gave out a cheque of shs85m to cater for the tuition of the beneficiaries for their four-year period in lower secondary education at the school.

Mr Robinson Mwenda, the Country Director of Gardaworld Company speaking at the event disclosed that the scholarship which is now in its second year running is part of the company’s ambition to deliver social value both throughout and beyond their core operations that sustainably support local communities in areas of healthcare, education and sport among others.

Mr Mwenda urged parents from Hoima and Buliisa districts to educate their children with the little support they are being given so that they can be able to benefit from the various opportunities in the oil sector.

The Chief Administrative Officer of Hoima District, who was represented by Mr Hannington Asaba Kiiza applauded Gardaworld for sponsoring the students saying the 85 million shillings tuition should not be taken for granted. Asaba called upon other development partners to copy from Gardaworld JV to uplift the education standards in the region.

Sophia Kabonesa the Buliisa District Education Officer advised parents to nurture their children well for them to have a better future.

She says parents should look at their children in the best way possible if they want the youngsters to be important people in future.

Uthuman Mugisa Kadiri, the LCV Chairman of Hoima District asked other companies operating in the oil and gas sector to fund the education sector if more locals are to get skilled and well-paying jobs in the sector.

The GardaWorld Scholarship Scheme is implemented in partnership with McDermott and Albertine Waste Management JV
