CCTV footage has revealed the identity of a police constable who was captured on camera, fully dressed in his official uniform, while committing a robbery at a supermarket.

The incident took place in Kisii, Kenya, where Police Constable Edgar Opollo, along with three other individuals, looted the store and managed to escape with a sum of ksh40,000.

“The incident was captured by CCTV cameras showing three robbers who had partly covered their faces, two of whom were armed, one with an AK47 and the other with a pistol. The rifle bearer had police fatigues on, but it was not apparent that he was a police officer,” DCI’s report indicated.

“Following Opollo’s arrest, an identification parade was conducted where the supermarket owner successfully identified him as one of the robbers who accosted him,” it added.

On February 3, 2024, a police constable in Kisii was rescued from a violent mob after he attempted to steal a phone from a student at Kisii University.

Fortunately, his fellow officers on patrol intervened and successfully dispersed the crowd, ultimately rescuing him from the situation. The mob had cornered him and left him unconscious, but thanks to the timely intervention of his colleagues, he was saved from further harm.

“Police Constable Edgar Opollo was saved from a furious mob by Kisii Central police who were on patrol, after finding the armed suspect under a hail of hefty blows,” DCI revealed.

“On inquiry, the officers established that the suspect had robbed a smartphone from a Kisii University student, and on frisking the injured suspect found the phone. He was arrested and escorted to the station.”

Further investigations have revealed that the suspect is a General Service Unit officer deployed in Kisii.

He is currently recuperating under police guard at a Kisii hospital pending interrogation and arraignment for robbery with violence.
