Wakiso: Two Mothers Jailed Over Karamoja Iron Sheets

Two residents of Nkumba Bufulu in Katabi sub-county in Wakiso Districts will spend two weeks on remand at  Kigo prison for allegedly being found in possession of suspected stolen Iron sheets from the Office of the Prime minister. 

According to the Prosecution,  the 214 pieces of  Iron sheets were part of the batch that was procured by the government to be donated to empower vulnerable  people in Karamoja.

Margret  Musoke and Rose  Nassaka. were charged with receiving  and retaining stolen property and Conspiracy to commit a felony.

The offences were allegedly committed on August 13th,  2023 at Nkumba , Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District.

They  denied the  charges  before Grade One magistrate Edgar Tusiime but could not apply for bail since the chief magistrate who is supposed to hear their case is indisposed.

Consequently the 2 mothers  aged 45 years and 46 years will stay in jail until January  24th, 2024.

Musoke and Nassaka have  become the  second and third persons who are not government officials to be charged with the theft of Karamoja Iron sheets.

The first one is  Micheal Naboya Kitutu; a brother to Karamoja Minister Mary Gorreth Kitutu.

Police say investigations regarding the  unfinished building site where the said iron sheets were recovered are still on-going.
