City Hall Court Magistrate Nasoozi Rehema has declined to dismiss a case in which political activist Habib Buwembo is accused of calling the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among a Karamajongo Ironsheer thief.

While appearing in Court on Monday, Buwembi who is charged with spreading Malicious Information asked the Court to have the case dismissed for lack of prosecution.

He made the submission after prosecution informed the Court that they were not in possession of the said file nor did they have any prosecution witness ready to pin Buwembo over the said charges.

The state then asked the Court to give them more time to be able to produce witnesses in the said case.

This did not go down well with Buwembo who accused the state of delaying his fight for justice claiming that since November 2023, prosecution has not been able to bring any witnesses or produce the said police  file in Court.

Buwembo who is representing himself called this a violation of his  right to a speedy trial and asked the public to stand against such human rights abuses including fighting against what he termed malicious arrests. However, the court adjourned the matter to the 6th of  February 2024  asking the state to be ready by then.

He  is said to have posted on his Social Media Platforms and called the speaker  a Karamojong Iron Sheets Thief.
