Police is holding a mortuary attendant attached to Anyeke HCIV in Oyam District for releasing a body which was under investigation without notifying the Police.
Bennah Ojok was arrested together with one Anna Adok, alleged relative of the deceased person to whom the body was released in the middle of Tuesday night.
Trouble started on Tuesday morning when a fisherman identified as Kalisto Omodi discovered a dead body floating in Okole swamp in Loro Sub-County in Oyam District. Omodi immediately informed police at Loro police station who visited the scene, retrieved the body from the water and conveyed it at Anyeke HCIV pending postmortem.
The body was later identified by one Anna Adok and another woman to be Caesar Alaju, a 42 year- old resident of Bala sub county in Kole District who had gone missing for days. The two women claimed to be an aunt and mother to Alaju respectively.
Reports indicates that Ojokreleased the body in the middle of the night to Adok who transported it to Bala only for the other family members to deny it saying that is not Alaju, their son.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson who confirmed the arrested described the whole incident as “controversial”, says investigation into the matter is ongoing.
By Wednesday morning, the unclaimed body was still laying at the home of Alaju’s parents in Apelo village, Bala Sub-County in Kole District. Walter Okao, Alaju’s brother confirmed that the body delivered is not of their brother and he believes that Alaju is still alive especially after his sister received a text message containing Alaju’s National Identification Number (NIN) stating that he (Alaju) is alive and that people should not worry about him.
Okema called for calm, asking Alaju’s relatives to cooperate with the police investigators.
Caesar Alaju contested and lost in the 2016 General Election as a candidate for LC5 Chairperson Kole district. The case about his disappearance is reported at Agege Police Post in Bala sub county Kole district.
