Marking a historic milestone in Uganda’s digital landscape, Centenary Group today officially commenced construction on the nation’s first Tier 3 green data center. This groundbreaking project not only promises to revolutionize Uganda’s digital infrastructure but also sets a new standard for environmentally sustainable technology solutions.

Coinciding with Centenary’s 40th anniversary in Uganda, the green data center stands as a powerful testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development. Designed to minimize environmental impact through the use of renewable energy sources and energy-efficient technologies, this state-of-the-art facility will pioneer eco-friendly digital infrastructure in the region.

“Today, we are not just laying the foundation for advanced technology, but for a more inclusive and equitable future,” declared Bishop Severus Jjumba, Board Director of Centenary Group and Bishop of Masaka Diocese, at the groundbreaking ceremony. “This data center will be a beacon of hope, especially for last-mile communities, offering them a digital lifeline that connects, empowers, and uplifts. It represents our unwavering commitment to ensuring that everyone, regardless of location or socio-economic status, shares in the fruits of technological advancement.”

Peter Kahiigi, Centenary Technology Services’ Chief Technology Officer, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the project’s focus on responsible and sustainable technology. “Building this center goes beyond harnessing the power of technology; it’s about doing so responsibly and sustainably,” he stated. “By incorporating renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies into this facility, we are actively minimizing our environmental footprint and setting a new standard for green data centers in the tech industry. This approach ensures that our digital growth is in harmony with the natural world, paving the way for sustainable development in the region.”

Bridging the digital divide and empowering marginalized communities is a significant focus of the project. The Centenary data center is expected to have a transformative impact on last-mile communities, providing them with unprecedented access to digital resources and services. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that the benefits of technology reach even the most remote and underserved areas of Uganda.

Furthermore, the data center aligns perfectly with Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap, solidifying the country’s dedication to integrating digital technology across all sectors. It stands as a critical component in Uganda’s strategy to leverage the power of technology for national development and inclusive growth.

Centenary Group’s green data center project marks a pivotal moment in Uganda’s digital journey. By prioritizing sustainability, inclusivity, and national development, this initiative promises to not only transform Uganda’s digital landscape but also pave the way for a more prosperous and equitable future for all its citizens.
