Two Dead After Truck Rams Into 13 Cars, Motorcycles at Namboole

A truck failed to brake at the Namboole interchange along the Kampala-Jinja road Thursday evening and rammed into 13 vehicles and two boda bodas, killing two people instantly.

Police confirmed the incident, and said investigations into the cause of the crash have kicked off and the hunt for the Fuso driver on the run has also commenced.

Ali Mutarya, a driver and resident of Kireka-Kasokoso, who was among the first respondents, says that he saw bodies. He says one was on a Boda-Boda and another was a street vendor. He says at least 13 vehicles were crashed by the truck.

“Two people have died in an accident involving M/V Reg. UBD 520H Fuso Box Body, thirteen (13) other cars & two (02) Motorcycles happened this evening 7/12/2023 on the Northern Bypass- Namboole Round at about 07:00 pm.

According to initial reports from our first responders, the driver of M/V Reg No UBD 520H, transporting maize from Nalya to Namboole, lost control at the roundabout, failed to brake, and rammed into 13 cars and 02 motorcycles, resulting in the loss of two lives,” Police said in a statement.

Police said the deceased persons were a female passenger on a motorcycle and a male yet to be identified.

An unspecified number of people were also injured and rushed to Gwatilo and Mulago Hospitals for treatment while the two dead bodies were also conveyed to Mulago City mortuary.
