Three men have been arrested by the Police in Kabale, involved in trafficking in persons, kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

The arrested individuals are identified as Bakerwa Henry, 55, a resident of Rwamirindi cell, Rushaka Parish, Kayonza sub-county, Rushenyi County, Ntungamo district; Twesigye Bashir, 41, a resident of Ruti in Mbarara district; and Twesigye Sam, 38, from Kampala.

All three are currently in custody at Kabale Central Police Station, as confirmed by Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson.

According to Maate, the suspects, without any legal claim, carried out their criminal activities on November 10, 2023. On that day, they kidnapped and trafficked Tusiime Bruce, 29, a businessman residing in Katuna Town Council, Kabale District.

The perpetrators used a Toyota Wish with an unidentified number plate, covering the victim’s face with a sweater, tying him with a rope, assaulting him, and robbing him of five million shillings.

Subsequently, they drove him and abandoned him in the valleys of Bubare along Katuna Road, before fleeing the scene.

Maate disclosed that the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday morning, after the police identified the suspected grey Toyota Wish along Katuna Road.

The complainant positively identified the occupants as the ones who had kidnapped him, leading to their swift arrest.

Further investigations revealed that the arrested individuals had a history of robbing numerous people within Kabale Town.

They also face additional charges related to stealing from motor vehicles, as documented in Kabale under CRB 844/2023 and Kabale SD: 65/01/11/2023.

A grey Toyota Wish with registration number UBH 734V was impounded and secured at Kabale Police Station.
