Despite the festive ambiance prevailing at rallies, deep-seated concerns persist regarding security in a region marred by the influence of militias and rebel groups. Cities such as Bunia, Bukavu, Butembo, Beni, Oicha, and Goma have seen nearly three decades of violence, contrasting sharply with the relative stability in other parts of the country.
With parliamentary and presidential elections set for December 20, the 23 presidential candidates seek to address a populace of nearly 44 million eligible voters out of a hundred million eager for leadership capable of addressing long-term security issues and broader governance challenges.
Among the contenders, wealthy businessman Moise Katumbi, a prominent opposition candidate, made an early appearance in Goma, emphasizing the critical need to restore security—a sentiment that resonated deeply with local residents yearning for stability.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Denis Mukwege entered the presidential race, focusing on eradicating corruption, war, and famine. His campaign traversed cities like Bukavu, Butembo, and Beni, garnering substantial support, particularly from women, who laud his commitment to peace and addressing social challenges.
The political fervor has intensified, evident in recent clashes between supporters of different factions, underscoring the fierce competition characterizing the electoral race. However, electoral experts express skepticism about the comprehensive plans of candidates to address critical issues, as the commitment to resolving violence remains uncertain despite diverse topics addressed in speeches.
