The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced with great sorrow the passing of its second Vice President, Darius Mugoye. This sad news comes just two months after he presided over the closing of a national tournament at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Buikwe district.

FUFA issued a statement on its official social media account, expressing its deepest condolences and informing the public, delegates, the football community, and all stakeholders of the passing of Mr. Mugoye Darius on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Mengo Hospital.

According to Ahmed Hussein, the spokesperson for FUFA, Mr. Mugoye had been hospitalized for an undisclosed illness for less than two weeks.

Darius Mugoye was notably present at the FUFA Technical Centre on August 4, 2023, alongside FUFA executive member Sam Mpiima and FUFA deputy chief executive officer of football Decolas Kiiza. They were there to grace the closing ceremony of the 2022/23 FUFA juniors league national finals. Pictures from that day were shared on FUFA’s social media, capturing Mr. Mugoye in a baseball cap, warmly greeting his colleagues at the technical center.

Darius Mugoye had served under FUFA President and Budiope East Member of Parliament, Moses Magogo, since 2013. They had recently begun their new term after being re-elected by FUFA delegates in Moroto district earlier this year.

Anita Among, the Speaker of Parliament and the spouse of Moses Magogo, expressed her deep sadness on social media, describing Mugoye as a reliable, committed, and trustworthy friend who made significant contributions to the sports and education sectors. She extended her sympathies to his family, friends, the FUFA family, and the sports community, wishing for his soul to rest in eternal peace.
