Lawyers representing Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake, have requested the appearance of Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa before the Rules, Discipline, and Privileges Committee for cross-examination. This development comes in the context of an inquiry related to alleged misconduct involving Rakai Woman MP Juliet Kinyamatama Ssuubi.
During the inquiry, Mr. Zaake’s legal team expressed their request for Deputy Speaker Tayebwa’s testimony. Deputy Speaker Tayebwa had presided over the matter, making his insights potentially valuable for the inquiry. However, the Committee Chairperson, Abdu Katuntu, emphasized that the discretion to determine relevant witnesses lies with the committee itself.
In addition to seeking Deputy Speaker Tayebwa’s testimony, Mr. Zaake’s legal representatives have also raised concerns about the case’s lack of specific charges and the identities of the accusers. These concerns underscore the importance of clarity and transparency in the inquiry process.
The inquiry is scheduled to continue next week as the Rules, Discipline, and Privileges Committee endeavors to address the various aspects of the case and ensure a fair and impartial process.
