Mityana municipality MP, Francis Zaake, has recently encountered an unexpected development concerning his office within the parliamentary complex. Zaake received official communication informing him of a change in his office location, a decision that has generated controversy and raised questions about parliamentary protocol.
The surprising turn of events began when Francis Zaake was notified that he had lost his spacious office on the fifth floor of the parliamentary complex. Instead, he was assigned a new office situated in the Queens Chamber Building. The unexpected move was met with dissatisfaction by Zaake, who expressed his determination to reclaim his original office.
Accompanied by his legal team and a notable security presence, Zaake made it clear that he was not willing to accept this change without a fight. He issued a stern warning, indicating his readiness to reveal parliamentary secrets if he was denied access to his former office.
The decision to change Zaake’s office location was underpinned by a letter from the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, dated March 1, 2023. The letter instructed Zaake to hand over his office to the Sergeant at Arms. This change stemmed from his suspension from the position of commissioner of parliament. However, the suspension was later overturned by a court ruling.
The Constitutional Court determined that Zaake’s removal from the commissioner’s position was invalid. Despite the court’s ruling in his favor, locks on his office were changed during his suspension, effectively preventing him from accessing the premises.
In response to this situation, Zaake’s legal team wrote to the Clerk to Parliament, outlining the circumstances surrounding his inability to legally occupy the office. The issue raises questions about Zaake’s status and access to his office, highlighting the complexity of the situation despite the court’s decision in his favor.
The matter is ongoing, and it remains to be seen how it will be resolved and whether Zaake will regain access to his original office within the parliamentary complex.
