On the morning of October 29, a shocking incident took place in Bwebajja Cell A in Wakiso district. The police’s Crime Intelligence Office in Kajjansi received a report about a group of over 40 unidentified individuals armed with menacing tools actively exhuming the deceased from the Mamba clan’s burial grounds. The district Police commander (DPC) of Kajjansi was alerted, and a team was dispatched to the scene.

Upon arriving at the location, the officers found the group, led by Bwebajja Cell A LC1 chairperson Charles Zziwa and the head of the Mamba clan, in the process of exhuming the deceased. It was discovered that the Mamba family had been experiencing internal conflicts. Allegations had arisen that a portion of the family’s land had been sold to a businesswoman named Namagembe without the consent of all clan members, leading to discord within the family.

Tensions continued to escalate, and due to pressure from the buyer, Zziwa made the decision to relocate the deceased to a new property in Buwama, a decision that did not sit well with certain family members. As a result, they resorted to the unsettling act of exhumation, with hired bouncers to secure the operation.

The police intervened swiftly and apprehended eight individuals, including Zziwa, Halima Nakiyaga, Zawade, Topista Namubiru, Hijambo Godfrey, Ronald Mutebi, Abedi Mutebi, and Ronald Ssekide. All suspects are detained at the Kajjansi Police Division pending further investigation.

This case, characterized as “disturbing the peace of the dead,” has revealed an unsettling episode of exhumation, shedding light on a family dispute rooted in clandestine land dealings. The disruption of the final resting place of their loved ones has left the community shocked, with unresolved tensions lingering.
