Kampala North Metropolitan Police have taken two adult males into custody after they were allegedly caught in the act of sodomy in a salon located in Kisingiri Cell, Namirembe, Bakuli Parish, Rubaga Division, Kampala.

The two suspects, both 23 years old, were arrested by the police on Friday when they were discovered engaging in unnatural offences in a salon.

According to Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, a student sought shelter from heavy rainfall on the salon’s veranda on October 20 at around 3 p.m.

The student reportedly heard unusual sounds coming from inside the salon and proceeded to record the two suspects in the act of sodomy.

Later, the student alerted security guards at the Total fuel station in Mengo, who then called the police at Bakuli. The police promptly arrested the two individuals.

Enanga emphasized that the suspects remain in police custody and are facing charges of practising unnatural offences. He noted that unnatural offences, such as sodomy, are punishable crimes in the country.

Since the enactment of the Anti-Homosexuality Act in May 2023, the police have been actively pursuing suspects on allegations of engaging in unnatural practices or homosexual acts. Over 12 suspects have been arrested and brought before the court between June and October 2023 on charges related to homosexuality.

Enanga encouraged the public to report any suspicious behaviours in their communities to the police and local authorities to ensure that perpetrators of unnatural practices face legal consequences.

Under the Anti-Homosexuality Act enacted by the Ugandan government, aggravated homosexuality may carry severe punishments, including the possibility of the death penalty, depending on the circumstances of the crime.
